Standard Mule Saddle Features and How to Use Them

These standard features are included, at no extra cost, on all D. R. Schrader mules saddles, and are available on all D. R. Schrader saddles.

Lead Rope carrier.

  • Photo 1.  To release, lift the loop over the horn.

  • Photo 2.  Back the tail of the lead back through the loop and pull.  All loops will slip free.

  • Photo 3.  Used as a reins tie.  To release, lift the reins over the horn and pull the reins at the point in front of the saddle skirt.  Reins will be loose.

Hoof Pick Case

  • Photo 4.  All D. R. Schrader mule saddles come with a standard hoof pick (blue handle) but the case is large enough for a pliers tool or folding knife.

Off Side Cincha Hanger

  • Photo 5.  Used when storing or carrying the saddle to keep the cincha up and out of the way.

Catch Rope Carrier or Rope Strap

  • Photo 6.  In the non-using position.

  • Photo 7.  The strap is wrapped one way two times, then reverse wrapped.  This keeps the coils from sliding.

This style of rope strap will break at the split if fouled on a tree branch or other obstacle.  If your critter bucks you off, your leg or foot, if fouled in the loop, will break the strap and prevent you from being hung-up.

  • Photo 8.  See photo 7 above, which shows the rope in the high position.  This photo shows the low position.
